Spring Experiences Are Back!!!!!
In conjunction with the Spring Fundraiser it’s time for SPRING EXPERIENCES.For those still wondering what Experiences entail, basically someone or a group of people (parents or teachers) sign up to host an event. The hosts pay for everything and then charge a fee to those that want to attend. 100% of fees go to the PTA. Hosts do not recover any of their costs. Events vary from year to year, but we historically offer a variety of experiences geared towards families, adults or students. Past experiences have included a Kickball Tournament, Mom’s Night Out, Bags Tournament, Movie Night, etc.If you are interested in hosting an event, please let me know. Event details are due March 8, which is only 3 weeks away. Experiences should take place between Friday, March 18 and mid June.If the statewide indoor mask mandate is removed on February 28, hosts will be able to offer indoor events. We will need to follow whatever guidance is in place at the time of the event. Regardless, we plan to continue to offer outdoor events also.
If you have any questions or want to host please contact Lindsay Monco at Lindsay.x.monco@gmail.com
CHESS IS BACK!
Chess Is Back!!! Due to getting it started late, we have modified the typical three school year sessions to two sessions with the first one being five weeks long and the spring session being seven weeks long for the remainder of the school year. The first session starts at the end of the month so register now for the early bird rate. I know a lot of families at Whittier haven’t experienced chess, but doing a five week session is a great introduction. It will be right after school on Wednesdays from 3-4pm. Check your child’s backpack for the flier!

Young Rembrandts is BACK!
The PTA is ready to bring back Young Rembrandts this spring! (read below to learn more about the program)Everything is set up and ready to go….but we NEED a volunteer to be in attendance during the class. If you plan to sign your child up and you are available on Tuesday afternoons from 3pm-4pm, please consider being a volunteer. You don’t need to teach, you just need to be there I’m hoping to find 1 volunteer for the entire session. Unfortunately we can not proceed with this program until we find a volunteer. The classes will take place on Tuesdays from 3pm-4pm beginning March 8th and ending on May 24th (no class during spring break). ***Volunteer Perk*** your child will receive 1/2 off of tuition. (Regular tuition is $154)Please reach out if you are interested in volunteering!A little bit about Young Rembrandts….Young Rembrandts’ step-by-step drawing method works hand in hand with our original curriculum developed by a team of artists and educators. Young Rembrandts’ elementary drawing teaches children to break complex objects into foundational shapes. As they learn how to deconstruct and reconstruct images, the expense, repetition and variety of engaging and relevant subject matter brings them to increased levels of mastery in drawing- and in life. Please keep in mind that per the Whittier School Covid Policy:-Parent volunteers will need to be vaccinated or follow covid protocols by regularly testing and completing the covid checklist upon entering school.-Parent volunteers will need to property mask while indoors.-Parent volunteers will need to maintain the appropriate social distancing. (6 feet away for adults)

Masterpiece of the Month Program
I am very excited to announce that we have been given permission to resume our Masterpiece of the Month Program at Whittier and we are looking for volunteers! Masterpiece of the Month is a monthly art program for Grades 1-5, where the kids are introduced to an Artist and one of their famous masterpieces through discussion, crafts and reading. One parent (or sometimes grandparent) volunteer will be assigned to each class once a month to present an artist, read a short book about them and bring in a coordinating art project or craft to go along with it. The time commitment is about 1/2 hour during the school day, which you will coordinate with your child’s teacher. There will be a calendar set up so that you know which artist and month you are selecting ahead of time. All of the artist’s books and a large print of one of their famous masterpieces will be waiting for you at Whittier, all you’ll have to do is come up with a coordinating project!
Some parents already volunteered at the beginning of the year through the PTA signup. (I have a list of those names.) If you would like to volunteer or have any questions about this program, please reply or feel free to message me. This is a great way to get in the classroom and have some fun with your child and their classmates!!
Please keep in mind that per the Whittier School Covid Policy:- Parent volunteers will need to be vaccinated and show proof of vaccination or follow COVID protocols by regularly testing and completing the COVID checklist upon entering school.- Parent volunteers will need to properly wear a mask while indoors.- Parent volunteers will need to maintain the appropriate social distancing – 6 feet away for adults.
