1. Family Fun Night at Culver’s!
2. Reading Games Book List
We are excited to announce the release of the 2019 Reading Games Book Lists (see link below)! Please also visit our website at readinggamesdg58.com. The full book list will be posted on the website soon. Please know that it may take a little time for the school and Downers Grove libraries to make all books available.
And Mark your Calendar – The 2019 Reading Games will take place at O’Neill Middle School on Saturday, March 16, 2019.
Team registration will open earlier this year, beginning Monday, October 1 at 10:00am and will close Sunday, October 7, at 9:00pm. Just like last year, we plan to accommodate every team that wants to participate in The Games. List 1 teams should expect to compete in the morning, and List 2 teams will compete in the afternoon. As long as the adult team lead registers their team during the registration window and completes the final registration in January, their team will have a spot at The Games.
We will follow team registration with an individual student registration for those needing assistance in finding a team. As in the past, we ask that all teams bring 2 adult chaperones to the event, and a third adult volunteer who will participate as a moderator, scorekeeper, or in one of many other important roles. Please note, you do not need student names or team name at this time.

3. Girls’ Day Out in Downtown DG
Support our PTA by attending the annual Girls’ Day Out in our downtown on September 27th from 10am-8pm! Print out this handy HALL PASS and shop/dine at any of the participating businesses. 10% of your sale will be donated back to the PTA!
4. Destination Imagination Open House
Please join us for a Destination Imagination (DI) Open House at 6pm THIS THURSDAY, Sept 27, in the Jaguar Jungle. We will talk briefly about the DI program and answer any questions. Students will then have the chance to participate in a few fun Instant Challenges – using their imagination to create, build and act out solutions. DI is open to all students from kindergarten through college, with some differences in challenges depending on grade. Contact Debbie Dobrez (dobrezdebbie@gmail.com) with any questions, and check out the DI website. https://www.
5. Language Labs Spanish/French Registration
Registration is OPEN for both after-school Spanish and **NEW THIS YEAR** French!
Our school is still in need of one (or many to split up the responsibility) in-class volunteer for Spanish. You will receive a generous discount for your time. If a volunteer does not come forward we will not be able to offer Spanish. Knowledge of the language is NOT required- you are there for attendance needs and monitoring.
Contact Rachel Carrero at rachel.carrero@gmail.com if interested in volunteering or for any other questions.

6. Amazon Smile
You shop, Amazon gives! For any eligible purchase you make from the Amazon Smile full site (mobile site not supported), Amazon will donate 0.5% back to Whittier! It’s easy – go to https://smile.amazon.com/ and type in Whittier Elementary School PTA under “pick your own charitable organization.” Follow the prompts to choose our PTA. Go directly to this link every time you want to shop Amazon instead of the regular full site. Thank you for taking the time to complete this process if you are an Amazon shopper! The PTA will provide an update on Amazon’s donation!
