That got your attention, right? Well for those of you that thought we were just going to JOG at the Jaguar Jog, we’ve got some news for you. This year, instead of an offsite after party, we’re bringing the party to Whittier! Set up in the parking lot closest to Grand, we’ll have deeeee-licious food vendors selling some fun post-race fuel….
* THE LITTLE CREPERIE from Clarendon Hills will be selling crepes with sweet and savory kid-friendly and adult-friendly flavors.
* JAMBA JUICE will have pre-made smoothies in their most popular varieties.
* SKUDDLEBUTTS will offer pizza slices, water and Gatorade.
Food will be available for purchase (cash only please) around 9:45 and tables will be set up for families to kick back and keep the fun going once the finish line has been crossed. The best part is, these awesome businesses are supporting Whittier’s PTA in the process with donations. All food items will be nut free and we will have disinfectant wipes on the tables to hopefully help with any other allergies/sensitivities. If you have questions about what will be served please email Cindy with any concerns.
For those of you new to Whittier – whether or not you’re a runner this is a great annual event to meet new families in the school.
We hope you can make it out!
2. Fall Experiences
Fall Experiences are here! CLICK HERE for the rough draft of the experiences that will be offered at the Jaguar Jog this Sunday. Sign up is first come, first served. Some information is subject to change but these are the final experiences. There are many exciting options. Hard copies will go home in backpacks soon! New to experiences? The experiences are a Whittier tradition at our fundraisers and are donated by Whittier families. All proceeds go directly to the PTA. If spots are still open after the event, they will be posted in the Whittier Weekly and on the Whittier School PTA Facebook page. Once the experience is full and the event gets closer, the host(s) will contact you via an evite with further details.
3. Language Labs
Whittier is partnering with a NEW language enrichment program to bring Spanish to our students!
Language Labs is a locally based company that uses native speaking instructors to bring the knowledge of culture and properly spoken dialogue to the classroom. The classes are geared to beginning level introduction of Spanish.
Classes will be offered on Thursdays from 3-3:50 beginning Oct 13.
Tuition is $280 for the entire 20 week session.
Register online at www.thelanguagelabs.net
If you have any questions contact Lourdes Beard at 630-533-2644
Also, the PTA is looking for a parent volunteer to stay at the school during Language Lab classes. Discounted tuition will be offered for their time.
4. Masterpiece of the Month
“The Purpose of Art is washing the dust of daily life off our Souls.” -Pablo Picasso
We are getting ready for our PTA sponsored Masterpiece of the Month to start up in October!
What is Masterpiece of the Month? A monthly art program for Grades 1-5 where the kids are introduced to an Artist and a famous masterpiece through discussion, crafts and reading.
Can you help out? YES!! We need parent volunteers for each classroom to continue to make this program a success.
Is it a huge time commitment? NO! Maybe 1-2 hours for the month you are presenting and we try to have at least two parents for each classroom so you only have to present every other month. But I know nothing about Art? THAT’s OK! We have lots of resources and very experienced parents that have done this for years and can help out.
Will my kid think I am a Rock Star? YES! In fact, every kid in the class will think you are a Rock Star! The smiles we get when we walk into the classroom each month are priceless not to mention the imagination and creativity we are fostering.
We currently REALLY need help in the following classrooms: Grade 1 Ms. Quill and Mr. Swade Grade 2 and Grade 4 Mr. Miller.
Please contact Kristi Maher kmaher@ftportfolios.com or 630.772.1966
5. Girl’s Day Out!
6. Fun Lunch
Don’t forget! – Last day for Fun Lunch ordering is next Tuesday, September 20. Click HERE to learn more on the ordering process.
7. Help Update the Family Directory
Whittier PTA publishes our only school directory, which parents find invaluable for carpooling, homework help, play dates, and more. If you officially signed up for PTA, you were able to choose whether you’d like to purchase a paper copy. A free online version is accessible to all registered users of the PTA website.
Review or add your directory listing NO LATER THAN MONDAY, OCT 3.
If you’re a returning Whittier family, your directory listing has been updated to reflect your student(s)’s grade(s) this year, but please be sure all information is correct: whittierschoolpta.org/directory-listing/
If you’re a new family (welcome!), please enter your directory listing:
whittierschoolpta.org/directory-submit/
We take privacy seriously, and accessing the online directory requires you to log in with the username and password you used to register for the PTA website. If you’ve forgotten your username or password, visit our help page.
Please note that online directory listings will be used in the paper directory, as well, so whether you plan to access the directory online or in print, please be sure your online directory listing is accurate. If you have questions, please contact Ann Russell. Thank you!
