1. WRECK
WRECK (Whittier Robotics and Engineering Club for Kids) is an amazing amount of fun and also a great way to learn interesting engineering and robotics concepts (without even realizing it!). For those not familiar, WRECK is a PTA run program and is offered to 3rd through 6th graders. Utilizing Lego WeDo kits (3rd and 4th) and new Lego EV3 Mindstorms kits (5th and 6th), we will give interested boys and girls an introduction to robotics and programming. The classes will start with learning basic principles and will culminate in a final project that should be challenging and rewarding. No prior experience required!
Registration is open for Session 2 (5th and 6th Grade) and is limited to 16 students. It starts on January 22nd and classes are Tuesdays 6:30 – 7:30. See HERE for all of the details and to register.

5. Six Flags Read To Succeed Program
Whittier will once again be participating in the Six Flag’s Read to Succeed Program. Students who read 6 hours and complete the Student Reading Log will earn a free ticket to Six Flags Great America. This incentive program will run the month of December. Student Reading Logs will be due to the classroom teacher Wednesday, January 9th though can be turned in as soon as the 6 hours have been logged.

6. Volunteer Liaison Request
The PTA is in search of volunteers to attend our general meetings and relay the information discussed back to their child’s classroom parents so everyone can hear what took place at the meeting. There are only four additional meetings for the school year so the time commitment is minimal! If interested in helping out please email Jenn DiCosola at jennbala@hotmail.com or Susan Lorenc at susan_lorenc@hotmail.com
7. Chess Scholars Winter Session
Registration is still open for Chess Scholars although the early bird registration window has passed. Classes are held after school on Monday.

8. Young Rembrandts Winter Session (Volunteer Needed!)
Registration for the winter session of Young Rembrandts is open! Classes are held after school on Tuesdays at Whittier. First class is 1/8. Cost is $110 for an 11 week session.
YB is in need of a second volunteer to share in the responsibility of monitoring the classes. Please email Rachel Carrero at rachel.carrero@gmail.com if interested in helping out! You will receive a discount on your child’s tuition for your time. Whittier requires an in-class volunteer for all after school classes so without your help we cannot offer this class!
