“All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking.” –Friedrich Nietzsche
Time is flying by, we’re all making summer plans, and it’s even time to make plans for next year’s PTA budget. Your input is needed so please see the agenda and proposed budget below and contact the PTA Board with any ideas or questions, and be sure to come to the April PTA meeting to get your questions answered. As the home page of the PTA website states, the PTA is a democracy, and the Executive Board is there to facilitate, not be sole-decision makers. Make sure your voice is heard.
We are so fortunate to have a wonderful Whittier Community. Thank you!
Whittier School PTA Executive Board
Very Important PTA Meeting TONIGHT
Please join us TONIGHT, April 15, at 7:00 p.m. for the April General PTA meeting. The meeting will be held in the Jaguar Jungle with free babysitting in the Art Room. We will be officially approving the Executive Board and presenting the PTA Budget for the 2014-2015 school year. Click here for the 2014-2015 Proposed Budget and here for the agenda.
Variety Show DVDs
Variety Show DVDs are in! If you submitted your order BEFORE Spring Break your DVD is ready! You can pick it up at tonight’s PTA meeting or before or after school by the Whittier front doors on Wednesday and Thursday.
All Blu-Ray orders and late orders are still being processed and will be ready soon! If you have any questions contact Melissa Rausch, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Spring Walking Club
Get the kids in their walking shoes every Wednesday for the rest of the school year so they can participate in the Walking Club again, starting tomorrow, April 16, at recess. As before, they will earn Jaguar Bucks ($1/two laps) to buy fun prizes at the Walking Club store that will be open twice more this year. More info to come on Walking Club store dates.
Book Fair April 24, 3:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Please join us any time after school and all the way through shortly after the Open House on Thursday, April 24, 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. for the Spring Scholastic Book Fair. This is a great time to stock up on books to prevent that summer slide which we’ll learn more about at tonight’s meeting.
We are also in need of more helpers for the Book Fair. If you can spare a little time to help set up (1:00 – 2:30), clean up (8:00 – 9:00), or work a short shift during the open house (6:00 – 7:30), please contact Tina Michaels at TinaCMichaels@gmail.com.
Green Team News
Earth Day is around the corner. Come celebrate Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22, in the Jaguar Jungle. Disney Nature’s African Cats will be playing from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. There is an admission fee of $1 that is being collected to support Habitat for Humanity and the Make a Wish Foundation. This is a Whittier Student Council After School Movie Event.
Free Tivoli popcorn will be available during the movie if students are interested. Please have your child bring their own water bottle. NO other snacks will be permitted in the Jaguar Jungle.
Permission slips are being sent home through backpack flyers; please return with $1 payment by April 22. Any questions contact Mrs. Krygeris or Mrs. Zagorski.
Remember that Waste Free Wednesdays will continue for the rest of the school year. Please pack lunches with reusable containers and nothing to throw away. (Yogurt tubes and string cheese are NOT waste-free)
Green Team had their final meeting last week – there are no more meetings during this school year. Thanks to all students, teachers, and parents who supported us! It’s not easy being Green, but it sure is FUN.
Please see the attached flyer for more information about the Fun in the Sun community event on May 18 at the DGSRC.
